November Newsletter and Calendar

October 28, 2013 • JAK's Place

Sometimes it’s hard to think of something to be thankful for. Try not thinking so hard. Close your eyes and listen to your own breathing. Hey, you’re alive! That’s something. 😉

Anyway, it’s newsletter time. The annual NAMI-DC Dinner Meeting is coming around again. Monday, November 11, at Hope Church (Yes, Hope, not Bay View). General hanging out starts at 5pm, dinner is served at 5:30, and the meeting starts at 6:15. We’ll be handing out Volunteer Awards too.

Two Packer Parties coming up, Sundays, Nov. 10 and 24, both at noon.

October Newsletter and Calendar

September 27, 2013 • JAK's Place

OCTOBER! Mental Illness Awareness Week and then some. NAMI-Door County will have a display in the Sturgeon Bay Library foyer all month, and we’ll have a tble at the YMCA Health Fair on Tuesday, October 22, from 8:30am to 1pm. You can help by spreading the word. Bring a friend to the Health Fair, or to JAK’s Place.

The last brat fry will be on Oct. 12-13-14, Saturday-Sunday-Monday. Volunteers needed. If you’re headed north, you know where the best lunch is!

CSP is unable to provide any staff for a Halloween Party this year, but they can help out with the munchies and we’re having one anyway! Get out the costumes and come on in, 3pm, Thursday Oct. 30. Do some of your trick-or-treating early.

And heeeeeeere’s the newsletter:

Our second quilt raffle went off well. We could have sold more tickets [insert sad smiley-face here] but still, we did pretty well. The lucky winner was LuAnn Desotelle, our “Egg Lady,” who has been regularly donating her wonderful free-range eggs to JAK’s Place. If anyone deserved to win a prize, she’s high on the list. LuAnn is a quilter herself, and so has all the more appreciation for Bettie Greenwood’s fine work.

September Newsletter and Calendar

August 28, 2013 • JAK's Place

ANOTHER YEAR has gone around, and JAK’s Place is about to celebrate its 8th Anniversary with an Open House. Saturday, September 21, from 11am to 2pm, the whole world is welcome to stop by for a visit. We will have all sorts of tasty snacks. The climactic event of the day will be the Quilt Raffle drawing, at 2. There’s still time to buy tickets (or help us sell some).

You wouldn’t want to mis a chance at this lovely quilt, would you? Even if you don’t need it yourself, think what a great present it would make — Christmas, birthday, wedding….

*The extra closed day and the Packer Parties are not in the calendar that was sent to CSP.

The latest NAMI Doorways / JAK’s newsletter and JAK’s Place calendar are ready to pick up.

The CSP Picnic is on Friday, August 23. Gathering starts at 11am, dinner at 12. Games, swimming, just lounging around on the beach, and BINGO with prizes! Get down to Sunset Park with your sunscreen and have some fun. JAK’s will be closed that day.

We are hoping to sell more Quilt Raffle tickets this month. Don’t forget that the Open House and raffle drawing are next month. Any ideas on good places to display the quilt and sell tickets, give us a heads-up at JAK’s Place.

There will be Yoga on the 5th, 12th, and 19th, but not on the 26th.

July Newsletter and Calendar

June 27, 2013 • JAK's Place

It sure is summer. The annual NAMI-Door County picnic is just around the corner. Monday, July 8, is the day; Otumba Park is the place; and 5:00 is the time. Dinner will be served at 5:30. We’re hoping to make our own little music festival this year, so bring an instrument if you have one. Everyone has a voice 😉

A lot has happened in the past month. The gardens are bursting forth from fresh compost, there’s a new(er) and rather awesome computer in the office, and a riding mower in the shed. We had a record-making Brat Fry, and we hope for a repeat performance at the end of July. The Quilt Raffle is progressing well, so far. Don’t forget that tickets are available at JAK’s Place!

Another new thing is that NAMI-Door County is now on twitter! Follow us — @NAMIdoor

So, here are the latest JAK’s newsletter and calendar. Please note that there will be no meal on Tuesday, July 9, the day after the Picnic.

Email Problems

April 29, 2013 • JAK's Place

Note — things have cleared up for now.

We have had quite a few emails “bounce” recently. It seems that a server that our regular email goes through has been blacklisted by SpamCop. The ISPs (Internet Service Providers) of some of our newsletter e-subscribers use the SpamCop service, which now blocks any emails from us Therefore, some subscribers who use their ISP’s email service are not receiving our monthly newsletter emails. Those who use “generic” email services, like Yahoo or Gmail, are generally not affected.

The effect has been erratic, but it is definitely messing up our information delivery. Although it may be temporary, it could increase. There is not much we can do about it, except to use a different email account. So, for a while at least, our Gmail account will be used for our official mailings. Look for email from jaksplace2006 (at) gmail.com.
