September Newsletter and Calendar

August 26, 2011 • JAK's Place

Omigosh, wasn’t it just summer?

The street deconstruction is almost finished, and JAK’s Place has a brand new view to the west. There is a raw scar where our “little house” used to be, but it will soon become either lawn or garden.

The newsletter is at the printer, and the calendar is all over (yes, trying to be funny). Here are the downloadable versions. The calendar has some corrections made after a copy was sent to CSP, so if you have their printed one you still need this one.

Everyone had a great time at the CSP Picnic on August 19. See photos and a video on our Facbook page.

There are two more Brat Fries this year — Sept. 3-4-5 and Oct. 8-9-10. Most shifts are filled for this month’s, but we won’t turn away volunteers. ๐Ÿ˜‰

August Newsletter and Calendar

July 29, 2011 • JAK's Place

We’re surviving the summer heat — and hoping to have air conditioning soon! Meanwhile, here’s the latest newsletter with some tips on how to keep your cool on those 90+-degree days, by Candace Worrick, and all the news that’s fit to print — or that fits in print ๐Ÿ™‚

Faith in Recovery has been canceled for the month. Marlys is recovering from a broken arm, and won’t be able to drive for some time.

The storm sewer construction is making access to JAK’s a little more difficult. Our back driveway to 8th Avenue is blocked; only the front entrance is available. Our neighbors are using the front drive too, so be carefull of the extra traffic.

New look for the site

July 16, 2011 • JAK's Place

Your sometimes-alert webmistress thought that it was about time for a little redecoration. One gets tired of the same old colors after a while. ๐Ÿ™‚

July Newsletter and Calendar

June 29, 2011 • JAK's Place

No fireworks, but a lot of work going on around JAK’s these days. The landscape is getting chewed up by big machines, and our “little house” is preparing to move.

Lots more to read about in the newsletter, not the least of which is the annual NAMI Picnic, Monday July 11 at Otumba Park. Gathering at 5pm; bring a dish to share.

Trencher - closeup

Trencher - closeup

This is what they used to chew a narrow trench in the grond — rocks and all — to bury a new gas line. It was kind of scary to see it rip up and spit out dirt and broken rock.

Trencher by sign

Trencher by sign

No, it didn’t eat our sign — or our garbage can! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Notice the flourishing garden beds just out of reach of the earth-eating monster. There’s a lot more construction destruction to come, but our flowers and veg will survive.
