“Decoration Group” is a project to create hand-made paper ornaments for our Christmas tree. The emphasis will be on Origami, the Japanese art of paper folding.

The practice of folding decorative shapes spread out from China after the invention of paper, many centuries ago. It has become a national pastime in Japan. Recently, psychiatrists have made use of it for its calming and focusing qualities.

Origami, unlike many other arts, requires very little investment in materials. Common print and copy paper folds very well. It is easy to make squares from rectangular sheets for learning and practice.

UPDATE – Art Group got a taste of origami. The introductory project was the traditional “flapping bird.” We had fun and — the birds flapped!
